A beautifully organized closet might photograph well. A perfectly arranged pantry might earn attention on social media. But for Paulina Montero, the real measure of an organized home is much simpler.

Does it make life easier?

That philosophy is at the center of B Home Pro Organizing, the professional organizing business Montero founded in 2019. Based in Schenectady, B Home serves clients throughout the Capital Region and Upstate New York, including Albany, Saratoga Springs, Lake George, Woodstock and Hudson, while Montero continues working with the New York City clientele where she first established her business.

B Home helps individuals and families declutter and organize closets, kitchens, pantries, living spaces and entire homes. The company also provides relocation services designed to help clients transition into a new home without spending weeks surrounded by boxes.

But behind the business is a story that stretches far beyond New York.

A Journey That Started in Mexico City

Montero grew up in Mexico City, but her path toward entrepreneurship was anything but linear.

At 22, she moved to Italy to continue studying fashion design. Traveling throughout Europe exposed her to different cultures, lifestyles and ways of thinking about home. She eventually returned to Mexico City and began designing children’s clothing, a career she loved.

Then a work trip brought her to New York City.

It was, as Montero describes it, “love at first sight.”

She made the kind of decision that can change the direction of an entire life. She arranged for a work visa, quit her job, sold her car, ended a relationship and moved to New York City, initially believing the adventure might only be temporary.

More than 25 years later, New York is home.

Along the way, Montero met her husband and the couple had a son. When the pandemic arrived while their son was five, the family began reconsidering what they wanted everyday life to look like.

Like many New York City families during that period, they wanted more space and a different pace.

They moved Upstate.

That transition ultimately gave Montero roots in two very different parts of New York and helped shape the next chapter of B Home.

Finding a Business in Something She Had Always Done

Long before professional organizing became Montero’s career, it was simply how she approached life.

In her first apartment in Mexico City, she enjoyed creating systems that helped her maximize a small space. Later, while sharing a New York City apartment with two childhood friends, limited closet space presented another challenge. Montero naturally became the person figuring out how to organize their clothing and kitchen while keeping the apartment both functional and visually appealing.

With each move, she noticed something else.

Organization was not just about finding a place for everything. Sometimes it meant deciding that everything did not need to come with you.

Moving between countries, cities and homes taught her to think carefully about what was worth keeping and how possessions could either support daily life or become another source of weight and responsibility.

Eventually, Montero began helping friends and family organize their homes. She discovered that she did not simply enjoy making spaces tidy. She enjoyed solving the puzzle of why a space wasn’t working and figuring out how to make it function better.

More importantly, she saw what happened to people when it did.

“I realized that there was something very meaningful about helping someone go from feeling overwhelmed by their belongings or their space to feeling like they could finally breathe and function more easily in their own home,” Montero said.

That realization eventually became B Home, which she officially launched in 2019.

What Does It Mean to “B Home”?

Even the company’s name reflects Montero’s larger philosophy.

To her, “B Home” represents more than having neatly labeled containers or a carefully arranged closet. It is about feeling comfortable, grounded and at ease in the place that is supposed to be your sanctuary.

Homes, after all, are where much of life happens.

They are where families return at the end of the day, where children grow up, where meals are prepared, where mornings begin and where people should be able to decompress from everything happening outside their doors.

Montero wants B Home clients to associate the company with intentionality, functionality and warmth, with the larger goal of creating a home that supports the life being lived inside it.

That means abandoning the idea that there is one universal definition of an organized home.

A system designed for a single person who rarely cooks, for example, probably will not work for a family of five preparing dinner every night.

The person matters before the system does.

Forget the Picture-Perfect Pantry

The rise of home organization content online has turned meticulously arranged refrigerators, color-coordinated closets and pristine pantries into an aesthetic of their own.

Montero’s approach is more practical.

A beautiful space is welcome, but beauty alone is not the objective.

Instead, she encourages people to ask more useful questions: Can you find what you need? Is getting the children ready in the morning manageable? Can groceries be put away without rearranging half the kitchen? Does everything have a logical place? Do the systems in the home make routines easier?

“To me, an organized home is one that reduces friction in everyday life,” Montero said. “When a home functions well, it naturally tends to feel calmer and look better, too.”

That distinction is especially important for busy families.

One of the most common issues Montero encounters is not simply clutter. It is an organizational system that no longer matches the household using it.

Families evolve.

Children grow. Schedules change. People move. Work situations shift. A household adds another child. What worked several years ago may quietly become an obstacle today.

“Life changes, but often the systems in our homes don’t change along with it,” she explained.

Taking Judgment Out of Organizing

There can also be an emotional component to asking someone for help inside your home.

A client may feel embarrassed about clutter or worry that a professional organizer will judge how they live. Others may simply feel so overwhelmed by the amount that needs to be done that they have no idea where to start.

Montero approaches those situations collaboratively and without judgment.

Instead of immediately attempting to overhaul an entire room, the process can begin with something as small as a drawer or a single area. The objective is to turn an intimidating project into something manageable.

And throughout the process, the client remains in control.

Montero can categorize, recommend, guide and build systems, but she believes the final decisions need to belong to the person who actually lives in the home.

Listening, therefore, becomes one of the most important parts of the job.

Before reorganizing a space, Montero wants to understand how the client uses it, what frustrates them, which items they reach for most frequently and how they naturally move through their day.

It is organizing built around behavior, rather than forcing behavior to fit an organizing system.

Making Moving Feel a Little Less Overwhelming

That same philosophy extends to one of B Home’s growing service areas: relocation.

Moving into a new home can be exciting, but the reality often includes weeks of boxes, half-unpacked rooms and the lingering feeling that life has not quite returned to normal.

B Home can become involved before a move by helping clients prepare and coordinate with movers, or the team can meet a client’s belongings at the new residence and handle the unpacking and organization.

Items are unpacked, categorized and organized according to the client’s routines. B Home can also assist with styling and finishing spaces so the property feels like a home rather than simply a collection of unpacked rooms.

The goal is to help clients begin living in their new space as quickly as possible, while reducing some of the mental load that comes with a major transition.

For an Upstate New York region that continues to attract people relocating from New York City and elsewhere, Montero sees considerable potential in that part of the business.

Measuring Success Differently

Professional organizing lends itself naturally to dramatic before-and-after photographs, but Montero says her favorite transformations are not necessarily the most visually impressive ones.

They are the ones clients feel.

It might be someone who no longer dreads opening a closet. Someone who can finally find what they need in the kitchen. A parent whose morning routine suddenly becomes easier. Or simply a client wondering why they waited so long to ask for help.

For Montero, those reactions reveal the real value of organization.

“It’s not just a beautiful organized space at the end of the project,” she said. “It’s giving someone back time, reducing daily frustration, and helping them feel more at ease in their own home.”

Building B Home’s Next Chapter Upstate

Now, Montero is focused on expanding B Home’s presence throughout Upstate New York.

She already has an established community and client base in New York City, but since relocating, she has become increasingly interested in connecting with families throughout the Capital Region and surrounding communities.

The longer-term vision includes growing a team of professional organizers, allowing B Home to serve more clients and expand its relocation services.

Yet as the company grows, Montero wants to protect the quality that shaped the business from the beginning: a personal approach that starts with understanding the individual rather than imposing a particular vision of what their home should look like.

For someone whose life has included homes in Mexico City, Italy, New York City and now Upstate New York, perhaps it makes sense that Montero’s business would ultimately center on a deceptively simple question:

What makes a place truly feel like home?

For B Home, the answer isn’t perfection.

It is creating a space where life works a little better.

And for Montero, that may be the most beautiful transformation of all.
